That the Parliament celebrates the 75th staging of the North Isles Sports, which was held in Sanday on 21 June 2025; understands that the competition was first held in 1949, and invites island residents from Sanday, Westray, Stronsay, Papay, North Ronaldsay and Eday to compete across a number of sporting categories, including track athletics, high and long jump, shotput, football, netball and tug-of-war; believes that this annual event provides a fantastic opportunity to showcase the sporting talent of Orkney’s outer north isles, while building strong ties and lifelong friendships between communities, competitors and supporters; understands that Westray retained the Millenium Cup for most points overall, but that all four competing teams enjoyed success, with Sanday doing the double in the netball while also winning the school’s football, Papay gaining revenge over Sanday in the senior football, and Stronsay earning the bragging rights for another year by winning the tug-of-war; further understands that Elsie Hutchinson and Connor Harcus broke 29- and 30-year records with exceptional performances in the 1500 metres and long jump respectively; notes the launch of a commemorative book, 75 Years of Orkney’s North Isles Sports, compiled by Rod Thorne, which records the decades of sporting rivalries and inter-island community bonds; congratulates all the competitors, volunteers and organisers on their efforts in creating another memorable weekend, and looks forward to the next 75 years of North Isles Sports.
