  • Submitted by: Emma Harper, South Scotland, Scottish National Party.

  • Motion reference: S6M-17665

That the Parliament congratulates the Carers Centre Dumfries on 30 years of partnership in providing a service that supports anyone that cares for a relative or friend; understands that the service provides reliable information and appropriate advice, and a valuable practical and emotional support lifeline to all carers, which includes a dedicated young carers space that enables children and young people to meet; understands that the mission of the service is to challenge and raise awareness of what it sees as the inequalities that carers experience and ensure that they have access to support and services that matter to them; recognises that over 14,000 new carers have registered since the launch of the service, with 560 new carers registering every year, and that these individuals are provided with a service that improves the outcomes of the carers in Dumfries and Galloway; notes that the Carers Centre was originally established in 1996 to support the carers in the local area of Dumfries, where the team of two staff members has now grown into a strong team of 20, who support adults, young people and young adult carers, and wishes all the team every success in the future.
