  • Submitted by: Rona Mackay, Strathkelvin and Bearsden, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 23 April 2025
  • Motion reference: S6M-17273

That the Parliament applauds Emma Walsh, aged 12, of Bishopbriggs, on being honoured at the 12th annual Scottish First Aid Awards; recognises that Emma was highly commended in the Young First Aid Hero of the Year category for her swift actions, which saved her dad’s life; commends Emma for her quick thinking and calm response when dad, Chris, showed signs of a life-threatening seizure, including getting him to safety at a nearby shop, alerting staff to contact emergency services, supporting him and ensuring that he was comfortable, before phoning her mum, Loraine, to inform her of their location; understands that Emma was presented with her honour at the Scottish First Aid Awards ceremony, attended by her proud parents and more than 300 people, at the Radisson Blu in Glasgow in March 2025; recognises that the Scottish First Aid Awards, organised by Scotland’s only dedicated first aid charity, St Andrew’s First Aid, highlights extraordinary people, and pays tribute to the charity for helping to raise awareness of the importance of first aid from an early age, which can very often mean the difference between life and death.
