That the Parliament welcomes the news of the first ever successful Relay for Life event, with more than £70,000 raised for the Cancer Research Institute Scotland; understands that the event took place over a 24-hour period in which 30 teams took turns to walk laps around Ayrshire Athletics Arena to show solidarity in the fight to beat cancer, and to acknowledge the progress of Cancer Research UK; further understands that Relay for Life celebrates the power of community fundraising to make breakthroughs happen, whereby teams of friends and families fundraise for world-leading cancer research and unite at events to remember loved ones, honour everyone affected by cancer and to celebrate the progress being made; considers that the work done by Relay for Life, Cancer Research UK and those who assist them is of great importance, and notes that their work will carry on for years to come and continue making a difference in fighting cancer; commends every participant and the event organisers on what it sees as their significant contribution to cancer research, and wishes them all the best in the future.
