  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 04 September 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-14318

That the Parliament recognises what it sees as the vital contribution that the Beacon Arts Centre makes to the local community and economy; understands that Inverclyde is one of the most deprived parts of Scotland; considers that the Beacon is a critical resource in Inverclyde with, it understands, more than a third of Inverclyde’s 37,406 households visiting each year; understands that the Beacon is used by major companies, including the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, National Theatre of Scotland and Scottish Opera, and that it supports the development of new work; recognises the Beacon’s role in creating jobs and training places in the arts in Scotland; understands that the Beacon recently applied for an uplift in funding from Creative Scotland to support its work and that this funding is critical to supporting the Beacon in the long term; considers that the funding is vital for the people of Inverclyde and the west of Scotland, and supports the Beacon in its application.
