  • Submitted by: Brian Whittle, South Scotland, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 28 March 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-12615

That the Parliament congratulates The Book Nook of Stewarton on being named Scotland’s Independent Bookshop of the Year in the British Book Awards, following nominations in the past two years; understands that the award celebrates bookshops that continue to support local communities with creative, specialist and community-centred activities; believes that The Book Nook embodies these values through its initiatives to improve its book stock and to engage with the local community through book clubs and events; notes that Sarah Frame, the owner of The Book Nook, has faced various challenges, such as the COVID-19 lockdowns and limited space for events, since the establishment of the business in 2020; welcomes Sarah’s attitude toward making what it sees as a valuable contribution to her community by partnering with local agencies, schools, and clubs, in order to help fill any gaps in their regular programming; commends Sarah and all her staff at The Book Nook who have contributed to the success of the local business, and wishes them well as they turn their sights on a UK title.
