  • Submitted by: Brian Whittle, South Scotland, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 14 March 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-12505

That the Parliament welcomes the news that Kilmarnock Tennis Club has been awarded £54,000 from sportscotland’s Sport Facilities Fund; notes that the fund supports projects that benefit community sport and widen access to participation or allow further sport progression, particularly in rural or deprived areas; understands that the award will be used to create two new multi-court playing surfaces for tennis, padel, and pickleball, which will support the growing demand on the club; further understands that, once built, the padel and pickleball courts will fill a significant role in their respective sports, as the only courts located in East Ayrshire; commends the Kilmarnock Tennis Club on its phenomenal growth from 140 members to 270 members over the past four years, which has been achieved through its engagement with the local community and members alike, including events and open programmes; congratulates the club on its funding award, and wishes it all the best in the future.
