Greenock Pantomime Breaks Records

  • Submitted by: Stuart McMillan, Greenock and Inverclyde, Scottish National Party.

That the Parliament congratulates the Beacon Arts Centre in Greenock on a record-breaking festive period, as over 17,500 went along to see its pantomime, Beauty and the Beast; understands that the pantomime sold its highest number of tickets ever, across 39 shows, and that theatre critic, Liam Rudden, claimed that it was the "best panto in Scotland"; notes that the performance included some well-known actors, including Still Game’s Jane McCarry and Mark Cox, River City’s Jimmy Chisholm, and panto favourite, Lee Samuel, and that it was written by Alan McHugh and directed by Beth Morton, who received rave reviews from the Greenock Telegraph and Broadway World; recognises that the panto made headlines around the UK when Mr Samuel accepted a proposal live on stage from his partner; hopes that the cast and all those involved behind the scenes are enjoying a well-deserved rest after a busy festive season, and appreciates that the Beacon is hard at work planning the next show, which it hopes will be just as big a hit with local audiences.
