That the Parliament celebrates that Rhona Martin from Glenrothes has been awarded a prestigious nursing title of Queen’s Nurse alongside 23 of her colleagues from across the NHS; understands that Rhona, a lead specialist community stroke nurse with Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland, was selected earlier in 2023 to take part in a nine-month development programme run by the Queen’s Nursing Institute Scotland (QNIS); notes that Rhona was awarded the title at a ceremony, which was held at the Sheraton Grand Hotel in Edinburgh on 24 November 2023; believes that Rhona’s exceptional contribution to her role is deserving of being awarded this prestigious title; understands that, from the late 1880s, Queen’s Nurses were social reformers, who took public health into people’s homes to help families take better care of themselves, and that the modern Queen’s Nurses are building on this heritage to improve the health and wellbeing of the communities of Scotland; notes that all 24 of the awardees represent a variety of areas across Scotland; believes that they demonstrate nursing and midwifery excellence, making a real difference to lives; understands that nurses are nominated by their employers and that the programme requires them to choose an area for development that will have a significant impact on those that they care for, and that this work will have a focus on promoting equity and inclusion; further understands that there are now over 150 contemporary Queen’s Nurses working across Scotland, and extends its gratitude for their hard work and dedication in their fields, and its very best wishes to them for continued success in the future.
