North Uist Distillery Named Scottish Gin Distillery of the Year

  • Submitted by: Alasdair Allan, Na h-Eileanan an Iar, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 22 November 2023
  • Motion reference: S6M-11336

That the Parliament congratulates North Uist Distillery on being named the Scottish Gin Distillery of the Year for the second year running at the 2023 Scottish Gin Awards; notes that the island distillery was also awarded the year’s Best New Product for its Downpour Coast and Croft Gin, and a gold medal in the Best Old Tom Gin category for its Downpour Pink Grapefruit Gin; further notes that the Scottish Gin Awards, which is one of the largest gin competitions in the UK and was held on 8 November 2023, was established to celebrate and promote the growing range of high-quality gins made in Scotland; praises the North Uist Distillery for its other recent successes, including B Corp Certification, which, it understands, is held by only 1,500 British companies that adhere to the highest standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability, and wishes it well in the future, especially as it continues to grow the market for its product at home and abroad.
