  • Submitted by: Emma Harper, South Scotland, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 24 October 2023
  • Motion reference: S6M-10918

That the Parliament congratulates Lochlan Murdoch, a 14-year-old teenager from Cumnock, East Ayrshire, who has lived with type 1 diabetes from a young age, on being awarded the British Citizen Youth Award (BCyA) at a ceremony at the Palace of Westminster on 17 October 2023; understands that Lochlan, founder of the SCIO, Lochlan’s Legacy, received the BCyA Medal of Honour after he helped to raise £10,500 for JDRF, an organisation that funds type 1 diabetes research, as well as The Kris Boyd Charity, which specifically works to keep people, including those with type 1 and type 2 diabetes, active in both body and mind; notes what it sees as Lochlan’s admirable efforts to support awareness raising of type 1 diabetes, including through walking 28 miles in four days around all the premiership football stadiums in Scotland, through creating a CPD-accredited course for all football coaches in Scotland on Basic Awareness and Understanding of Type 1 Diabetes, and through all the work that is undertaken by Lochlan’s Legacy; thanks Lochlan for all of his work for the diabetes community, and wishes Lochlan every success for the future.
