New Mural Brings Brightness to a Glasgow Street

  • Submitted by: Annie Wells, Glasgow, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 20 September 2023
  • Motion reference: S6M-10509

That the Parliament congratulates children and young people from St Roch’s Primary and Secondary School, Royston Primary School, and Royston Youth Action, on creating a new mural on Royston Road; understands that Rosemount Development Trust commissioned Michaela McManus and Molly Hankinson, who are artists on the SWG3 Yardworks, to work with the children over a four-week period, which included workshops and engagement classes during which the children and young people were asked what Royston meant to them; recognises that this led to the youngsters sharing their feelings, stories and associations of the area, which culminated in a mural of the landscape of flowers, sports, and images of parks and locals, and acknowledges that, having only been completed in mid-August, the design is already making a difference to residents, who have commented on how bright and vibrant the mural is.
