  • Submitted by: Maggie Chapman, North East Scotland, Scottish Green Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 07 September 2023
  • Motion reference: S6M-10296

That the Parliament acknowledges that the UN General Assembly has declared 21 September as the International Day of Peace (IDP), and that this is a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace; understands that the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, has called for the day to be marked through observing 24 hours of non-violence and cease-fire; believes that every effort must be made to secure world peace, specifically through the absence of war and violence, and to secure temporary cease-fires to enable humanitarian aid access to those suffering the consequences of such violence; recognises the work of organisations that it considers seek to secure peace for all, such as Justice and Peace Scotland, the Scottish Palestine Solidarity Campaign, the Scottish Peace Network, and many others, and commits to seeking to contribute to peace-building as a member of the international community.
