That the Parliament congratulates Dr Sheila Reith, latterly Consultant Physician, who has been appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in His Majesty The King’s Birthday Honours 2023, in what it sees as recognition of the life-changing impact that her work has had for people living with diabetes; understands that Dr Reith's exceptional legacy includes her idea and research to develop the world’s first insulin pen, which, it understands, has made life with diabetes radically simpler and has been used by millions all over the world; believes that Dr Reith teamed up with Dr John Ireland and Dr John Paton, and with support from Diabetes UK, they designed a new device that would transform how people with diabetes inject insulin, and commends everyone involved for this exceptional and ground-breaking work.
