Cystic Fibrosis Week 2023

  • Submitted by: Alex Cole-Hamilton, Edinburgh Western, Scottish Liberal Democrats.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 13 June 2023
  • Motion reference: S6M-09377

That the Parliament notes that Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Week takes place from 12 to 18 June 2023; further notes that 16 June is Wear Yellow Day, which aims to raise awareness of the impact of the condition; recognises that CF is a progressive, life-limiting genetic condition affecting approximately 11,000 people in the UK, including roughly 1,000 people in Scotland; believes that, while research means that the median age of death for someone with CF has increased from 31 in 2016 to 38 in 2021, this is still tragically young; is aware that CF not only affects people physically and mentally, but financially too, with a recent report by Bristol University finding that the additional costs that come from living with CF are over £6,500 a year; commends the incredible efforts of thousands of volunteers across Scotland and the rest of the UK, and celebrates what it sees as the excellent work of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust in supporting everyone with CF to live a life without limits.
