Increasing Confidence in Using the Bus

  • Submitted by: John Mason, Glasgow Shettleston, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 23 March 2023
  • Motion reference: S6M-08316

That the Parliament notes the recent publication of a report by First Bus, which found that one in five people in Glasgow avoid the bus due to a lack of travel confidence; notes that, according to the report, 22% of people in Glasgow say a lack of confidence in knowing how to travel by bus prevents them from doing so; further notes that 27% of those surveyed felt they would benefit from a basic how-to guide on travelling by bus; understands that 18- to 34-year-olds were nearly 10% more likely to report low confidence from travelling by bus (28%) than over 55-year-olds (19%); welcomes the First Bus campaign to improve people's confidence with videos that provide information and how-to demonstrations on how to travel by bus, and believes that everyone should do more to promote and educate the public about the benefits of public transport as Scotland transitions to a carbon neutral society.
