That the Parliament congratulates Kirkwall Grammar School on winning Netball Scotland’s Scottish Schools Open Cup; recognises that the Orkney-based team won 51-49 in an exciting, hard-fought game, after recovering to overhaul a 10-point deficit in the final quarter; notes that the Scottish Schools Cup is open to all affiliated schools in Scotland, with competitions across a range of secondary school age groups, and that the Open Cup offers senior teams the opportunity to compete at a national level; understands that the winners of each regional league in Scotland proceed to compete for the Schools Cups, with a competition for the Schools Plates available to league runners up; commends Kirkwall Grammar School, but also recognises the Open Cup runners up, Stewarton Academy, as well as James Gillespie’s High School and Broughton High School as winners and runners up, respectively, of the Open Plate, and looks forward to seeing netball in schools and at grassroots level continue to grow in strength and popularity.
