Drumchapel's 70th Anniversary

  • Submitted by: Bill Kidd, Glasgow Anniesland, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 08 February 2023
  • Motion reference: S6M-07780

That the Parliament congratulates the community of Drumchapel, in the Glasgow Anniesland constituency, as it embarks on celebrating its platinum anniversary throughout 2023, turning 70 years old; notes that the area was created in the 1950s by the Glasgow Corporation, and was developed over three stages in an effort to house part of the city’s overspill population, and that it was once the largest township in Scotland; believes that, over the decades, Drumchapel has experienced its highs and lows, however, the one thing that has remained a constant is its community spirit; understands that various forms of celebrations are planned to take place every month in 2023, which started with a ceilidh on 21 January, held at the Goodyear Social Club, with a birthday festival taking place in the summer at the local park, and rounding off with a Santa’s Grotto with carol singing in December, and hopes that all of Drumchapel’s many individuals, groups and agencies will be given the chance to be part of the cornucopia of Drumchapel’s birthday celebrations.
