Glasgow Mums Launch Playgroup for Kids with Autism

  • Submitted by: Annie Wells, Glasgow, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 17 January 2023
  • Motion reference: S6M-07542

That the Parliament congratulates Autisfun, an inclusive playgroup launched in Glasgow to support families of children with autism; notes that the playgroup was founded by three local mothers, who wanted to create a space for parents and children to make connections and support each other; understands that the opening was a big success, with more than three dozen families taking part in the session at the Barmulloch Community Development Company; acknowledges that children played with an inflatable castle, dolls, puzzles, building blocks and more, while the adults enjoyed food and conversation; considers that raising children with additional support needs can be isolating and intimidating; notes that the entire family can attend the playgroup as it believes that siblings are also affected by an autism diagnosis; understands that local parents and carers were delighted by the two-hour session, which will return every Friday, in the hope to reach more families, and acknowledges that the group can be found every Friday at Barmulloch Community Development Company, from 4pm.
