That the Parliament congratulates Stromness on hosting the 73rd Stromness Shopping Week, which was held from 18 to 23 July 2022; notes that Stromness Shopping Week is Orkney's longest running festival having been established in 1948 to attract visitors and enable Stromnessians to showcase the town; understands that over 100 events and activities took place across the week, including regular favourites of the fancy dress daft raft race, crabbing, yard of ale and pavement art competitions, flower club exhibition and various sports and live music events, with the fancy dress parade and fireworks display rounding off proceedings at the end of the week; congratulates Jayden Taylor on being chosen as Stromness Shopping Week Queen 2022, supported by attendants, Gemma Montgomery and Ella Leitch, Page Boys, Ruan Temple and James Anderson, Flower Girl, Anna Tait, and Chaperones, Cally Bevan and Heather Wilson; thanks the volunteers on the committee who, it understands, work tirelessly all year round to fundraise and organise the busy schedule of events for the enjoyment of all ages; commends the committee on the full in-person return following the virtual festivities in 2020 and scaled down events in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic; thanks the many local businesses and organisations that provide vital support and sources of funding towards the running of the festivities; believes that Stromness Shopping Week is the perfect opportunity for family and friends to come together and is a great example of Stromness’s excellent community spirit, and wishes Stromness many more successful and memorable shopping weeks to come.
