NHS Pharmacy First Scotland

  • Submitted by: Liam McArthur, Orkney Islands, Scottish Liberal Democrats.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 23 June 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-05018

That the Parliament celebrates the milestone that is the second anniversary of the NHS Pharmacy First Scotland service; recognises that the service has undertaken over three million consultations for minor illnesses, helping to support patients and the public when access to other services was reduced during the COVID-19 pandemic; understands that the service has enabled community pharmacies to provide expert advice and treatment for conditions such as urinary tract infections (UTIs) and skin infections, as well as consulting on conditions such as sore throats, earache and cold sores; acknowledges that the service is planning to empower community pharmacists further over the coming years by, for example, widening access to existing services and introducing consultations and treatment for more conditions such as Bacterial Vaginosis (BV); considers that, through delivery of this service, the community pharmacy network has become the front door of the NHS in the redesign of healthcare delivery, ensuring that the people of Scotland see the right professional in the right place, and commends Scotland's pharmacy network on its continued success in delivering the NHS Pharmacy First Scotland service to the people of Scotland.
