Future of Pulse Community Radio Station

  • Submitted by: Russell Findlay, West Scotland, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 13 April 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-03999

That the Parliament expresses concern for the future of Pulse Community Radio Station (Pulse 98.4), which is based in Barrhead; understands that if Pulse 98.4 is required to leave its current premises and set up elsewhere, this could result in the station having to either end transmission or take a prolonged break in transmission; believes that in over a decade of serving the community, Pulse 98.4 has been a platform for local voices in East Renfrewshire; understands that it has also provided employment and valuable experience, allowing former members of the station to acquire, what, it believes, are the necessary skills to continue their career in the media industry with broadcasters such as BBC Radio 1, BBC Scotland, Bauer Media, Go Radio, Central FM and DC Thompson; believes that community radio stations provide an important local service that brings people together, keeps communities informed, and provides a voice to those who may find it harder to access the media, and urges that a solution should be found that would allow Pulse 98.4 to continue to broadcast.
