As an amendment to motion S5M-01554 in the name of Donald Cameron (NHS Scotland Staffing Crisis), leave out from “and has no confidence” to “organisations” and insert “believes that the Scottish Government should have taken stronger action sooner to prevent serious staff shortages, given increased demands on the health and social care workforce; further believes that mental health must have full parity of esteem with physical health and that workforce planning should reflect this; acknowledges that staff shortages may disproportionately affect staff and patients in low-income areas and remote and rural areas, and that effective workforce planning should respond to health inequalities; believes that more action must be taken to increase the number of medical students from a wider range of backgrounds; believes that maintaining free tuition and bursaries for health care students is vital to supporting the future healthcare workforce; supports action to encourage medical students to practice in Scotland after graduating; is concerned that the implications of Brexit jeopardise NHS’s ability to recruit and retain health and social care staff".
