Question

To ask the Scottish Government whether it is considering the need to publish data on cancer surgery outcomes.

Answer

The Scottish Government welcomes the principle of publishing hospital and consultant level outcomes data and believes that measuring and reporting outcomes data for specific conditions and procedures, where available, is an essential tool to better understand and improve patient care.

The Innovative Healthcare Delivery Programme was recently established to develop a national data infrastructure for Scotland, linking primary, secondary, tertiary and ultimately, social care data, aimed at improving patient outcomes across the country. The first phase of this programme of work is underway looking at cancer intelligence data and systems across Scotland.
