  • Asked by: Ken Macintosh, MSP for Eastwood, Scottish Labour
  • Date lodged: 12 June 2012

Question

To ask the Scottish Executive when it will bring forward details for a local income tax and whether the principles of that scheme will be the same as those of the scheme that was subject to a ruling by the Scottish Information Commissioner.

Answer

The Scottish Government believes the current council tax system is unfair and will consult with others later in this Parliament to produce a fairer tax based on the ability to pay. All potential alternative approaches will be considered as this work is progressed.
