Cross-party Group

The Convener (Dave Thompson)

Good morning, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to the 17th meeting in 2012 of the Standards, Procedures and Public Appointments Committee. I remind members to turn off mobile phones and BlackBerrys.

Agenda item 1 is the committee’s consideration of changes of name and purpose for the current cross-party group on tobacco control. Members have a paper on the subject. Are there any comments?

Brian Adam (Aberdeen Donside) (SNP)

I declare an interest as a former convener of that cross-party group. I am not sure that we need to see the present convener either now or in the future. I do not have a particular problem with what has been requested, although I am not sure what it will achieve.

Richard Lyle (Central Scotland) (SNP)

I agree with Brian Adam. The paper sets out the reason for the change and I do not see any problem with it. I, too, think that we do not need to invite the convener along. I therefore suggest that we approve the proposed name change and purpose change for the cross-party group.

Is that the general view of members? It seems to be.

Members indicated agreement.

Okay. We agree to the changes of name and purpose for the group, and that there is no reason for us to see its convener.

09:31 Meeting continued in private until 10:30.
