I often give the statistic from my specialty, which is obstetrics, that postnatal depression is the most common complication of pregnancy: 12 per cent of women have postnatal depression. That should be part of an individual’s plan, because it gives a carer confidence and security, ensures that they are not frightened and lets them know that, should anything happen, there will be support and a plan for the person for whom they care.
