In Scotland the decrease in the level of employment over the year was driven mainly by 5,000 men leaving employment, compared to 3,000 women.
The UK saw an increase of 39,000 over the quarter due to 38,000 men finding work.
There is no comparable data available for Wales and Northern Ireland, as the Welsh Government and the Northern Ireland Executive publish relief expenditure, but not the numbers of relief recipients, and hence no comparable UK data.
We started to break out of the old mould in which health policy was about health services and little else. If we compare where we are now with where we were then, we are a lot further forward, but there is lots more to do.
