Before the present system with NorthLink, P&O ran what had previously been cross-channel ferries, but the ships that are in use now have moved on very much from those vessels.I am bound to say this, but we have to deal with unique demands with regard to the relationship between freight and passengers on the services.

I have an observation for Professor Baird rather than a question. I take his point about the P&O service in the past. However, if I remember correctly, P&O received considerable state subsidy to run that service, did it not?
