We should also acknowledge that Scotland now has a suite of tools, such as the licensing scheme for short-term lets and the empty homes levy. A number of policy levers could be pulled to get maximum benefit from every property.
Then, we must consider what can be done with taxes and levies on income, profits, wealth, land, property, luxury goods and—especially—goods that damage our health or the environment.
I have figures that show that 86 per cent of all the cuts, which amounts to £4 billion, are levied against women, including single parents and women on low pay.
Will there be a European Union directive under which only a certain amount of tax could be levied against citizens in any EU country, so that we have a uniform tax system for fuel and so that people in rural parts do not pay the high prices that they currently pay?
I am not sure how members will take this suggestion but, if we are agreeing to continue the petition, I suggest that we write to Scottish Water, asking about its system of levying water and sewerage charges for particular residences.
