*S6M-06036 Beatrice Wishart: Whalsay Care Home Celebrates 30 Years—That the Parliament congratulates staff and service users at Fernlea Care Home in Whalsay, Shetland, on the 30th anniversary of the opening of the care home; understands that the building was officially opened on 12 September 1992 by Jane (Jeanie) Stewart, following the championing of the need for a care home on the island by her husband and local councillor, Henry Stewart; further understands that Fernlea Care Home is an integral and valued part of the community, and provides both residential accommodation and day care services, and is operated by Shetland Islands Council; celebrates the achievements of staff members, including two who have worked at Fernlea continuously since its opening, and wishes all at Fernlea Care Home well as they celebrate this milestone.

Indeed, former patients and parents have shared their thanks for the unit, including one mum whose daughter was the first child diagnosed with a nut allergy at the unit and who has just celebrated her 24th birthday. As I have said, adult services have built in similar models because of the success of the unit.
