*S6M-10305 Claire Baker: Recognising 1st Dalgety Bay Brownies Stalwart, Susan Laird, for Receiving Girlguiding Special Service Award—That the Parliament congratulates Susan Laird on being awarded a Special Service Award in Girlguiding after four decades of volunteering with local groups in West Fife; understands that, after celebrating her 80th birthday in July, Susan still helps out with the 1st Dalgety Bay Brownies every week and is still heavily involved in the work of the district; notes that Susan received the special service award from county commissioner, Janice Spence, at a celebration to mark her birthday; understands that Susan started off working in the ranger unit and soon became a ranger leader, and took part in many international and national camps over the years, including one in Canada and one in the grounds of Windsor Castle, and has taken girls to London on many occasions, where, once, they fulfilled the role of marshals at a Thinking Day service in Westminster Abbey; appreciates that Susan was part of a team that took Guides and Brownies to the Carmichael Centre in Balmullo; commends and applauds Susan’s achievement of undertaking, it understands, an adult Duke of Edinburgh challenge in her late 60s; understands that, when Susan turned 65, she wrote to Girlguiding, which led to a change in the organisation's retirement age policy a few months later; recognises Susan’s dedication and contribution to Girlguiding and what it sees as her positive impact on young people in her local community, and extends its very best wishes to Susan for her 80th birthday and for continued success in the future.
