There is no redress in Scotland and we should not be proud of such a system, which leaves the Law Society sitting in judgment like the devil sitting in judgment on sin. Would you please include in your title the word "incompetent", which I believe covers a lot of the issue?

Yes, but some time ago the point was made to us that Scotland does not have the right attitude. The eighth deadly sin in Scotland is showing off. We do not want to promote ourselves too much, whereas in other cultures it is seen as not only okay but desirable to promote yourself.

In that case, I think that we have done all that we can by saying that we would want that to happen. It is a sin of omission on my part, because I agree fully with what Mr Spanswick said, but I should mention that it would not be worth promoting a works bill unless the bill also conferred planning consent.
