Official Report Meeting date: 27 September 2006

Plenary, 27 Sep 2006

I will address the process that has to be gone through for any capital transport project—Paul Martin asked a fair question about that.I acknowledge Bill Butler's leadership on the issue in Parliament, both through his convenership of the cross-party group on Glasgow crossrail and through his raising the issue in the chamber on numerous occasions, although in truth the issue got a fair hearing in the preliminary stage debate on the Glasgow Airport Rail Link Bill before the summer recess...

He insisted that I buy him an expensive Celtic strip, which he wears all the time. During the Easter recess we went to the Isle of Tiree. He wore the strip to the playground and, unfortunately, ran into one or two of the local boys, who were Rangers supporters and gave him a slightly hard time.

Official Report Meeting date: 9 February 2005

Plenary, 09 Feb 2005

The Scottish Parliament will be in recess shortly and the petitioners plan to take the petition to Westminster next month, but I would like the committees to be informed of the evidence that we have heard today.
Official Report Meeting date: 3 November 2004

Plenary, 03 Nov 2004

Motion debated, That the Parliament congratulates Highlands and Islands Renewable Energy Group and the trade union Amicus on their initiative to promote the development and manufacture of renewable energy structures, whether for wind, wave or tidal power, in the Highlands and Islands; recognises that there is a skilled engineering workforce available locally; further recognises the considerable socio-economic benefits that would flow from this work to the nearby communities; believes that renewable energy infrastructure would be better supported by these communities if they perceived that it was bringing local economic benefit, and therefore believes that the Scottish Executive should do all it can to support Highland-based companies in bidding for renewables contracts in Scotland and elsewhere. Before the recess...
