Scottish Palestine Solidarity Campaign against Israeli Embassy Donation

  • Submitted by: Jackson Carlaw, West Scotland, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 30 April 2014
  • Motion reference: S4M-09879

That the Parliament notes with concern the campaign by the Scottish Palestine Solidarity Campaign (SPSC) against the Stills Gallery in Edinburgh for accepting a donation from the Israeli embassy in London; notes that the gallery was exhibiting photographic works by international artists in an exhibition entitled, A Thousand of Him, Scattered: Relative Newcomers in Diaspora; understands that the embassy donated £1,300 as part of its support for Israeli artists' work abroad, after which its logo was added to the list of corporate sponsors; acknowledges that the Israeli artist, Yael Bartana, whose work was to be supported by the donation, is a vocal critic of Israel's treatment of Palestinians, and believes that through its campaign the SPSC has shown itself to be a thoroughly discredited organisation driven more by a hatred of Israel than a desire to support Palestinians.
