Question
To ask the Scottish Government what proportion of prison monitoring visits have been carried out on an unannounced basis.
Answer
The precise number is not available. However, prisons are not informed in advance of the date or time of rota visits, only which IPM(s) will attend during any given week so the significant majority of monitoring visits conducted are unannounced.
