Question

To ask the Scottish Government what its response is to reports that one in ten pupils are taught in substandard schools.

Answer

The proportion of pupils educated in good or satisfactory condition schools has increased from 61% in 2007 to 90% in 2019.

We welcome the decrease in the number of poor or bad condition schools from 993 in 2007 to 288 in 2019.

While it is the statutory duty of local authorities to maintain the school estate, we have demonstrated our commitment to improving Scotland's school estate through the £1.8 billion Schools for the Future Programme and the £1 billion Learning Estate Investment Programme.
