Portlethen-based Firefighter Receives Commendation Award for Efforts in Turkey Earthquake

That the Parliament congratulates the four firefighters who received commendations for their efforts during the Turkey earthquake disaster in February 2023; understands that a 77-strong delegation of International Search and Rescue UK firefighters was deployed to assist in rescue efforts; notes that the team included Watch Commander, John Aitchison, who is based at the Portlethen Training Centre in Aberdeenshire; understands that the four firefighters were thanked by the Consulate General of Turkey for their efforts during a visit to the Turkish Consulate in Edinburgh, and were also in attendance at the King's Garden Party at the Palace of Holyroodhouse; recognises the bravery of the firefighters who participated in the rescue efforts, and passes on its sincerest gratitude for the risks that firefighters take to keep communities safe.
