That the Parliament wishes Hugh McClymont a long and healthy retirement after spending more than 40 years in the dairy industry, including as an expert at Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC); recognises that the larger-than-life character dedicated much of his working life as farms manager for the South and West Faculty, where he won multiple awards and held a number of prestigious positions on industry committees, including hosting the popular Scot-grass events; understands that he started as a herdsman at the Acrehead Dairy Unit in 1979, before becoming farm foreman and, in 2002, the farms manager for the conjoined Acrehead and Crichton Royal Farm sites, and subsequently taking control of all SRUC dairies, including Barony; considers that some highlights of his career include winning the Farmers Weekly Dairy Farmer of the Year award, pioneering OPEN Farm Sunday at Crichton through Leaf Innovation, and travelling around Dumfries and Galloway with Daisy, the life-size plastic cow, to raise awareness of the Royal Highland Education Trust, while encouraging numerous young people to consider a career in the industry following school visits and placements, as well as supporting research students to achieve their goals, and understands that Hugh, a director of the Royal Highland and Agricultural Society for Scotland, now plans to spend more time with his family, caravanning and watching rugby at Murrayfield.
