St Andrew’s First Aid Delivers Life-saving Education in Stirling

  • Submitted by: Evelyn Tweed, Stirling, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 13 March 2023
  • Motion reference: S6M-08194

That the Parliament commends St Andrew’s First Aid (SAFA), which, it understands, is Scotland’s only dedicated first aid charity, for its exceptional work in promoting safety and wellbeing in communities across Scotland, and for its Scottish Primary School Project, which provides training sessions to school teachers; understands that this initiative, currently being piloted in the Stirling Council area, aims to equip schools with the necessary resources to teach first aid within primary school classrooms; notes that the sessions total four hours of content, which can be taught flexibly between P1 to P7, with schools able to apply for certificates to issue to all children who have completed the course; acknowledges that, through the provision of this training, SAFA has made a significant contribution to promoting safety and preparedness among young people from an early age; understands that SAFA’s long-term ambition is to replicate this programme across every local authority in Scotland and ensure that first aid training is incorporated as part of the curriculum for primary schools, as well as for secondary schools, and hopes that the success of this initiative will guide future policy decisions and inspire other organisations to follow suit in their efforts to promote public safety and wellbeing within Scotland's communities.
