That the Parliament celebrates the 70-year anniversary of Bearsden Art Club; understands that, in 1953, a group of people met in the former Bearsden Academy for an art class, with the motivation of encouraging individuals to paint, draw and be creative, which they found also supported the mental health and wellbeing of the members; notes that it eventually became apparent that the group wanted more than just an evening class, resulting in the formation of Bearsden Art Club, which has grown exponentially over the years and expanded to different locations, with members even using Zoom to stay connected throughout the COVID-19 pandemic; believes that the club has been part of the development of the arts in Bearsden and Milngavie since it started, holding exhibitions all over the area, with the Lillie Gallery having been the home of the Annual Exhibition since 1983, whereby each member submits up to two pieces of works to be displayed for the public, friends and family to view; acknowledges that, as it is the 70th anniversary, the group has a forthcoming visit to the refurbished Burrell collection, a one-day workshop with a local artist and a dinner celebration with speakers, and that it has also run an art competition for local primary schools in Bearsden, with the winners being displayed at their Annual Exhibition in the Lillie Art Gallery from 4 to 30 March 2023; commends the hard work of its brilliant volunteers for organising and managing all activities of the club, and looks forward to seeing what they get up to in the future.
