  • Submitted by: Fulton MacGregor, Coatbridge and Chryston, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 22 September 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-05967

That the Parliament notes the 63rd anniversary of the Auchengeich mining disaster, which took place on 18 September 1959; believes that the tragedy was Scotland’s worst mining disaster of the 20th century; understands that 67 children were left without their father and 41 women were widowed when 47 men lost their lives; acknowledges the impact of the disaster that is still felt in the community of Chryston and the surrounding areas, and notes with gratitude that the Auchengeich Memorial Committee continues to keep the miners in living memory by arranging a service every year at the memorial statue at the Auchengeich Miners Club in Moodiesburn.
