Aldi UK Donates 6,000 Meals to Lanarkshire Charities During School Summer Holidays

  • Submitted by: Stephanie Callaghan, Uddingston and Bellshill, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 06 September 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-05856

That the Parliament congratulates Aldi UK for donating more than 6,000 meals to North and South Lanarkshire charities during the recent school summer holidays to help people in need across Lanarkshire; notes that Aldi UK paired its stores up with local charities, foodbanks and community groups via community giving platform, Neighbourly; understands that Aldi UK's partnership with Neighbourly, which started in 2019, is playing an important role in increasing the amount of food surplus provided to local good causes through a year-round programme of redistribution, as well as helping Aldi achieve its goal of halving food waste by 2030, and encourages supermarkets across Scotland, as the cost of living crisis deepens, to expand their philanthropic work by forging new and deeper partnerships with community groups that are supporting local people in need.
