Ayrshire Family Raise Funds for Mental Health in Memory of Ayr Dad

  • Submitted by: Sharon Dowey, South Scotland, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 12 July 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-05378

That the Parliament commends Ayrshire’s Christine McGarrie and Suzann McKenzie on their recent efforts in raising funds for the Kris Boyd mental health charity in memory of James McGarrie, from Ayr, who passed away in 2019 at the age of 32; understands that the fundraising evening was held at Pro Soccer Ayr in April 2022, where signed memorabilia from Kris Boyd and raffle prizes donated from local businesses were auctioned off, raising a total of £1,517; understands that the event took place for the anniversary of James' passing and was set to shine a spotlight on suicide among men; further understands that Christine and Suzann were supported by the charity following James' death, and applauds their efforts in raising money, which it understands will go to supporting other families affected by and those experiencing poor mental health.
