Clydebank Asbestos Group's 30th Anniversary

  • Submitted by: Marie McNair, Clydebank and Milngavie, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 17 June 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-04932

That the Parliament congratulates Clydebank Asbestos Group on its 30th Anniversary; understands that the organisation was set up in 1992 to provide support, advice and information for those affected by asbestos and their families, as well as to raise awareness of mesothelioma and the dangers of asbestos; considers that, unfortunately, Scotland had a long association with asbestos; understands that some companies were among the pioneers in developing the manufacture of asbestos products, which were often used in shipbuilding, an industry that was prominent in Clydebank in the 19th century; notes Clydebank Asbestos Group’s many partnerships with other organisations, including West Dunbartonshire Council, Improving the Cancer Journey, Macmillan Cancer Support, Energy Action Scotland, Mesothelioma UK and the Scottish Mesothelioma Network; believes that this allows it to take a holistic approach to supporting its clients, and commends everyone involved for 30 years of important work.
