Restoring the Strathkelvin Railway Path in North Lanarkshire

  • Submitted by: Fulton MacGregor, Coatbridge and Chryston, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 04 April 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-03908

That the Parliament commends the Northern Corridor Community Volunteers (NCCV) on their efforts in improving the disused Strathkelvin Railway Path in North Lanarkshire; understands that, thanks to the hard work of the volunteers, the restoration works, which include cleaning of the path and installing signage, have improved the safety and accessibility of walking routes; considers that the path improvements play a vital role in helping local communities to keep active in the Northern Corridor, including Auchinloch, Stepps, Chryston, Muirhead, Moodiesburn, Mount Ellen, Gartcosh and Mollinsburn; understands that NCCV is also promoting the benefits of being physically active by organising safe and accessible social health walks in five of the villages they work in; further understands that NCCV has received training and financial support of over £4,000 by the walking charity, Paths for All, with support from NatureScot, to help to promote and improve walking opportunities in the area, and wishes the project continued success in supporting community members in the Northern Corridor to stay active.
