Inverness Castle

  • Submitted by: Edward Mountain, Highlands and Islands, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 09 November 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-01985

That the Parliament congratulates the Inverness Castle Delivery Group and its co-chairs, Helen Carmichael, Provost and Leader of Inverness and Area, and Fergus Ewing, for highlighting the work that is being carried out to Inverness Castle to create a gateway for Highland tourism; understands that a number of significant archaeological finds have been made during the works being carried out; notes the recent announcement by the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rishi Sunak, that the Inverness Zero Carbon Cultural Regeneration Project has been awarded £19.86 million by the UK Government; understands that this will provide funding to improve Inverness Castle as a tourist attraction, with an emphasis on environmentally-friendly redevelopment, and believes that it is just one example of how the Highlands continues to benefit from being part of the UK.
