West Linton Burns Night In

  • Submitted by: Christine Grahame, Midlothian South, Tweeddale and Lauderdale, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 29 January 2021
  • Motion reference: S5M-24013

That the Parliament recognises the success of West Linton Burns Night In, as promoted by West Linton Village Centre Trust; understands that the online event saw over 160 people participate, mostly from West Linton and surrounding areas but also from as far afield as Edinburgh, Yorkshire, Manchester, Birmingham, Kent, Germany and the United States; notes that the evening included various activities, including an address to the haggis, traditional speeches and toasts, and entertainment from an array of local talent, finishing with a rendition of Auld Lang Syne; believes that the event, as well as promoting the works of Burns, provided a valuable chance for the community to come together from afar, which is of great comfort to many as the pandemic restrictions continue; commends West Linton for its community spirit, and thanks everyone involved for making it a success.
