Sorrow and Solidarity with the People of Vienna

  • Submitted by: Alex Rowley, Mid Scotland and Fife, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 03 November 2020
  • Motion reference: S5M-23228

That the Parliament expresses its deep sorrow and solidarity with the people of Vienna following the news that at least four civilians were killed and 17 others injured in a series of shootings across six locations in central Vienna on the evening of 2 November 2020; believes that the incident started near the Seitenstettengasse synagogue when a heavily armed man opened fire on people outside cafes and restaurants; understands that seven of the victims have life-threatening injuries and hopes for their recovery; notes that the Interior Minister, Karl Nehammer, said that Austria had “experienced an attack from at least one Islamist terrorist”; believes there is no place for any form of hatred and violence against others, and condemns this despicable terrorist attack.
