Deaf Fife Schoolgirl Joins Lewis Capaldi in Sign Language Version of His Song

  • Submitted by: Jenny Gilruth, Mid Fife and Glenrothes, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 13 August 2019
  • Motion reference: S5M-18501

That the Parliament congratulates Niamdh Braid, a 10-year-old girl from Fife with hearing loss, who recently joined the music sensation, Lewis Capaldi, in performing a sign language version of his hit song, Someone You Loved; acknowledges that the opportunity for Niamdh to perform with Lewis came after the schoolgirl recorded a video, which has since gone viral, of her singing the song with the hopes of gaining a chance to perform with and meet the singer; notes Niamdh’s assertion that hearing loss is not a barrier to enjoying music, and wishes her and her family the very best in the future.
